MLB The Show also shows up
This probably won’t come as much of a surprise, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was the most downloaded game on PS Store for the month of April. As you can see on the PS Blog’s latest charts, the latest adventure in a galaxy far, far away dominates, taking number one on both PS5 charts and first and second place on the PS4 lists.
MLB The Show 22 was the only game to also claim a number one spot, with US PS4 users preferring the baseball sim over another trip through a plastic platformer. Elden Ring, meanwhile, is also still present among the bestsellers, as is Cyberpunk 2077, WWE 2K22, and Gran Turismo 7. Interestingly, Batman: Arkham Knight has seen a resurgence, no doubt thanks to The Batman movie putting players in the mood for the caped crusader.
Over in PSVR land, Moss: Book II comes in third and fourth in the European and North American charts respectively, not quite toppling mainstays like Beat Saber and Job Simulator. Fortnite is still king of the free-to-play charts, but Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is doing fairly well, and eFootball appears to be bouncing back after a huge update vastly improved it.
Which games did you grab from the PS Store last month? Build a picture in the comments section below.

Horizon: Forbidden West not being in the top 10 in any of the PS5 and PS4 charts is shocking. It reinforces my opinion that Sony made a big mistake not waiting until late April or early May to release it.

I bought Resi 8 last month, after swearing that I wouldn’t buy any more games due to purchasing HFW and GT 7 within a couple of weeks!
Interesting lists. Really does seem as if a lot of PS4 players are waiting to get a PS5 before buying the two games mentioned above or maybe I have that wrong.
🤷
Col_McCafferty
@RBMango well as someone that did buy it and competed it last week, I’m glad they didn’t push it back any further.
Not as if there were any other decent games released in Feb.
😉
What kind of message would that have sent? Pushing it’s release back due to another game? Might have made it look as if they didn’t have any confidence in their product, which wouldn’t have been a good look.
Over time it will sell millions upon millions of copies. It’s a fantastic game after all.
Apfelschteiner
@RBMango I think sales are being skewed towards physical while people are picking up games with their new PS5. I’m definitely going to buy HFW when I get round to it, but I don’t have the time or desire to play games as they release.
Apfelschteiner
Could you not just post some tables of the top ten games on each platform. It would make the information much clearer.
RBMango
@Col_McCafferty I don’t think a lot of people both at Sony and in the fanbase would have cared about the short-term message if that meant the game was given a lot more breathing room, was much more polished at release, and made more money. Games get delayed all the time because of other bigger games being released in a timeframe. Sony’s hubris got the best of them from what I can see.
Granted, I’m going off hypotheticals, but Sony not saying a single peep about its sales almost four months after release speaks much louder than words. That says A LOT for a company that likes to brag about how many copies their latest exclusive darlings sell every chance they get. For contrast, they crowed about Returnal selling around 560,000 copies after three months of it being on the market, and they were very quick to say when Rift Apart sold over a million copies a little over a month of its release. If they aren’t saying anything about one of their biggest games so far this generation, that can only mean the news isn’t good.
Col_McCafferty
@RBMango I don’t think anyone foresaw how big ER would prove to be, probably not even FromSoft themselves!
It didn’t seem to be the ‘bigger’ game at all, rather a nice alternative for anyone not interested in Aloy’s new adventure. In an ideal world it would’ve been released late last year but there’s only so many delays gamers can accept.
I think this is a case where hindsight is a wonderful thing so accusations of arrogance on Sony’s behalf, are quite baffling and incorrect.
It will have legs, long legs, and may not sell as many copies as Zero Dawn but it will more than make it’s money back and then some.
Happychocobo
Shame the new lego star wars just wasn’t that great imo.

One thing I am pleasantly surprised by is Kena being in a top 15/20. It’s so nice seeing an indie game have legs like these. It was my 2nd favorite game last year and deserves everything.
RBMango
@Col_McCafferty Oh for sure it will have long legs. Hell, The Last of Us: Part II and Miles Morales are still in the charts. Sony exclusives have a good history of long-term success.
And, you’re right about "hindsight is always 20/20", but I do think it was a dumb move to not get out of Elden Ring’s way just based on the volume of hype and From’s cultural significance. If I was Jimmy Boy, I would have delayed it to a much quieter month. The thing that bothers me the most is that I think the game itself suffered as well because it was pretty buggy at launch (at least for me) and Guerrilla has been adding things that should have been in the game day one (disabling pick-up animations, for one example). Just sheerly from a technical standpoint, I think Sony released it too early, and that reflects poorly on their normally sterling reputation for releasing polished titles. And Sony doesn’t need any more hits to its reputation after some of the weird stuff they’ve been doing over the last few years.
Col_McCafferty
@RBMango FromSoft are or were seen as niche, whatever the hell that means, not as if HFW was released the week before GTA 6 or something!
I didn’t experience many bugs nor other technical issues but I was playing it slowly, so by the time I finished it it had received a number of updates.
I think what some gamers class as a buggy game is different to a few years ago. I think if Skyrim was released now it would be subject to review bombing!
