PC players on Steam will not be able to pre-load LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga before it releases tomorrow morning US Pacific time.
The first LEGO Star Wars game was released almost twenty years ago in 2005 and made a big impression on gamers who grew up with the GameCube and original Xbox era of consoles. While the series has seen its ups and downs, the LEGO games are generally well-regarded by those who play them. 2016’s LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens saw good reviews at launch, and many fans are waiting eagerly for the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on April 5th.
Unfortunately, there is some bad news for LEGO Star Wars fans on PC. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently confirmed that players will not be able to pre-load LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga before it officially launches at 10 AM Pacific/1 PM Eastern.

Reddit user sirbnjmn spread the word on the LEGO Star Wars game’s subreddit. He shared a screenshot of an email from WB Games Support, explaining that The Skywalker Saga’s PC players on Steam can download the game at 10 AM Pacific tomorrow. The email adds that “We’re not aware of any plans to allow users to pre-load the game installation before the release timing mentioned above.” This means that even PC gamers who pre-ordered The Skywalker Saga won be able to play immediately when the game launches.
PC gamers on the LEGO Star Wars subreddit were very annoyed with this news. There was more than a little grumbling about The Skywalker Saga’s release time, which is during the middle of a weekday when many fans will be at work. It’s also fairly late in the day for Europeans, with one commenter complaining that The Skywalker Saga releases at 7 PM their time. Others complained that Warner Bros. Interactive treats their PC players as the lowest priority when the publisher doesn’t forget about them altogether. However, some felt that a few of their fellow fans are overreacting and that the lack of pre-loads is a relatively minor inconvenience.
Either way, there is not much that Steam users can do but wait until the game releases tomorrow. For anyone who has missed out on The Skywalker Saga’s various trailers and announcements, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga adapts the nine main Star Wars films to digital plastic. Unlike previous games, where players go through each film’s plots in order, The Skywalker Saga lets them choose freely between the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has seen positive reviews, with the Switch, PS5, and Series X versions earning scores of 81%, 84%, and 83% on Metacritic. Thus, it’s not surprising that many PC players are anxious to get their hands on it the moment The Skywalker Saga launches on Steam.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases April 5 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
