There’s no doubt that exclusives will play a big part in the upcoming PS5 vs Xbox Series X next-gen console contest. Simon Rutter, who is the Executive Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, has been talking about the PS5 in an interview with The Guardian. Rutter was opining about how important exclusive games would be and paid particular focus to the racing title Gran Turismo 7:
Gran Turismo 7 is going to benefit from almost every single technological enhancement that we have in PlayStation 5. The loading times will be next to nothing compared to what they have been in the past. Sitting in the cockpit, the 3D audio allows you to hear the thunderous roar of a Ferrari behind you or in front of you, and you can recognise the difference between that and the engine noise of a Maserati.
It’s a thrilling description of a PS5 exclusive that will be music to the ears for a PlayStation fan. Numerous PS5 exclusives were announced during the recent game reveal/hardware reveal event, with the standout titles including GT7, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
However, as The Guardian article states it’s still a business risk for Sony to rely on exclusive titles. Pricing rumors have shown price tags of £69.99 (US$89) for PS5 games, and even at £50-60 (US$63-75) for a single game it’s still a gamble for a PS5 console owner to make a purchase, especially if the title ends up being poorly developed or full of bugs.
